GAINING WEIGHT

Excuse us for tooting our horn this month but the DMN community is expanding like a waistline at a sushi buffet. Our "hits", affiliates and mailing lists are growing. We are now syndicating articles to three dozen websites and our book orders are coming from as far away as Finland! Today the Internet. Tomorrow ... who knows?

IN THE NEWS

We just did an interview with Kathy Gilbert of the Chattanooga Times. Kathy wanted some expert input on bargain shopping. There's no one better than our Janet, who is the queen of getting more bang for your buck. Janet gave Kathy enough material for several articles. You don't have to wait to read the Chattanooga Times to get Janet's advice on shopping smart. Check out our site and don't forget the book, Dress Me Now! Learn what you need to know today!

GLAD TO BE OF SERVICE

There's no better feeling than helping others. We've been given the opportunity to work with The Box Project, a national non-profit organization that has been helping people living in rural poverty in the US since 1962. We'll be doing what we can for the many women they serve and we really hope we'll be able to make a difference. If you know of a family or individual in need or would like to make a contribution to their cause, go to http://www.boxproject.org/index.htm and find out how you can help.

HELPING WOMEN ON THE EDGE

At Dress Me Now, we truly believe that when we are helping others, we are all at our best. We are announcing a pilot program of donating copies of our books to organizations that serve women in need, especially those who are overcoming physical and emotional challenges that have taken them out of the workplace. What better way to help a woman get back on her feet than to prepare her - inside and out - for that first job interview. If you know of an organization that could use our book to help their clients, e-mail us at

BLISTERS ARE BEAUTIFUL - HONOLULU MARATHON UPDATE

We raised over $6,000 and it was an experience not to be missed. Whenever you find yourself stressing over a "missing button" or "bad hair day" remember to be thankful that you have your health. There are so many of our "sisters" out there who have so much more to battle every day.

PRESS RELEASE

THE BOOK THAT'S CHANGING THE WAY
WOMEN THINK ABOUT CLOTHES
... AND THEMSELVES

LOS ANGELES, CA - In a recent telephone poll, PEOPLE magazine asked women about how the images of Hollywood's svelte stars influence their self?esteem. 80 percent said that the women portrayed in the media make them feel insecure. 93 percent have tried to lose weight. 34 percent said they would try a diet even if it could endanger their health.

Janet Behmer, co-author of "Dress Me Now" which is subtitled "How to Make Your Wardrobe Behave" says, "A woman's self-image is a delicate thing. That's why we wanted to write the kind of fashion book that has never been done before. We dress women body and soul. We help them build confidence in their own natural beauty and feel good about themselves in every way."

When Janet met her co-author, Shirley Pierce, on a plane flying to Chicago many years ago, little did they know that their mutual interest in shopping would lead them to writing a book together and having their fashion advice appear in e-zines throughout the internet.

Their book "Dress Me Now" has just been published by L.A. based Core Concepts, Inc. As the title says, it's a book full of fashion and image know-how with a quick wit and a sharp eye to, in their words, "put the fun back into shopping and dressing for real women with very real bodies."

In the years since their first Chicago shopping spree, the authors have gained valuable experience which they share in the book. Janet Behmer spent 13 years in television retailing for home shopping channels, including the Fashion Channel. Shirley Pierce speaks to women's groups and has been featured on radio and television. Her advice on women's inner and outer beauty appears on e-zines throughout the internet.

"All women are beautiful. Not just super models," says Shirley. "We wanted to write a book that takes the trauma out of getting dressed every day that also boosts a woman's self-esteem. A book that easily shows women what to wear to celebrate their best features no matter what their body shape. Women think it's hard to go from their corner office to their kid's karate class in comfort or feel good if they're pregnant and their toes have gone AWOL ... but it's not hard if you know a few simple tricks."

BOOK SIGNING

The book signing at City of Angels bookstore was a success! It was good to see a few of our regular DMN ladies and get a chance to meet a lot of new ones! We've been asked to come back and do it again. When we do, we'll let you know.

ACTORS' WORKSHOP

Nothing is more important to actors than the image they project in an interview or audition. The wrong image can cost them the job the minute they open the door. We're proud to say that "Dress Me Now!" has been picked for the reading list of an acting workshop called "Acting From The School of Life". Our dressing guides and confidence building philosophy are just what the actor ordered.

SECOND PRINTING

Core Concepts Inc. is preparing "Dress Me Now!" for its second printing. Look for a new cover and more retail outlets soon (including an on-line retailer in Russia!)

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND WORKSHOPS

Because our dressing tips and self-empowerment system are so universal, Shirley has been asked to speak to a wide range of groups. This month she will be giving vacation packing tips to a tour group leaving for China and holding a self-empowerment workshop for a group of young teen girls. She will be working with the girls to build their self-image and their attitudes for today and for the world that awaits them in the future.

DRESSING DOWN UNDER

Australian sporting goods company, Clipper Fishing Systems, consulted with us at Dress Me Now to help them choose the wardrobe for their upcoming U.S. commercial campaign. Our decades of experience in creating just the right image for advertisers really came in handy on this one.

BOOK SIGNING

No matter their age, color or size, all mothers like to step out in style. Maybe that's why the City of Angels bookstore in Marina del Rey has invited Shirley and Janet to do a book signing on Mother's Day. All current and future DMN ladies are welcome to come on out and say hello. Bring a mother, a friend or anyone else you love to The City of Angels Bookstore at 5550 Grosvenor Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90066. Drop by at 10:30 am and 12:30pm.

RADIO INTERVIEW

Not just another pretty face, Shirley was interviewed by Larita Shelby for RadioScope, a "premier urban radio entertainment magazine". The interview will be heard on over 150 stations - including WGWR in Philadelphia, CHOICE FM in London and WVJZ in the Virgin Islands. Shirley talks about working with Janet, co-writing "Dress Me Now!", the building of the website, "power thinking" and how we can all get through the day looking good and feeling the best we can. There will be millions of listeners tuning in from around the world, including the armed forces (for those DMN ladies in uniform who want to look together in "civvies").

IN SYNDICATION

If you're surfing through your favorite websites for women (from working moms to Plus Size ladies or even aspiring singers), you'll find one (or more) of Shirley and Janet's articles. They share tips on everything from how to build a classic wardrobe to boosting your self-esteem. Whether you're a new mom, working mom, going on vacation or a website editor looking for content, Shirley and Janet have just the article for you.

THE BOOK

It's official! "Dress Me Now: How to Make Your Wardrobe Behave!" has gone global! Fans of the book are e-mailing in from New Zealand, Kenya, Nigeria, Australia and Singapore!

DMN MAKEOVER

The Dress Me Now self-empowerment system strikes again! DMN fan, Stephanie Sanders-Smith, an up and coming young Los Angeles entrepreneur, put out an SOS and we answered! Stephanie wanted to upscale her image and tame a bulging wardrobe. Two sessions with Shirley showed Stephanie how to use the clothes she already had to give her the "take charge" image she wanted. Stephanie says, "Working with Shirley proved to be a wonderful experience. It helped me see that I wasn't really using my closet full of clothes to the best of my ability. There were so many things I could mix and match to get those together, clean, bold, beautiful and sassy looks I desired. From accessorizing to color, we did it all. It really just took someone with her expertise to open up that door of opportunity to my closet."
